Roadworthy day!!
It’s here finally after a massive emotional journey with my dad restoring this car has been an absolute pleasure.
Dad was a car salesman. He worked from home doing up cars to make a little on the side to support his family.
Unfortunately we were 4 months late since cancer took its toll and for him to see it completely reserrected but he would of been proud of this day.
Giving me this opportunity to restore this car has been the greatest gift my father has ever given me. I’ve learnt an enourmous amount about cars the way they operate how enjoying it can be to make something work that once was almost beyond repair.
Here we are at one of his best mates who is a mechanic and helping us see this project over the line.
Cleaning the engine
Used a bit of elbow grease steel wool and soapy water to clean the engine up.
My fingers hurt but looks so much better now.
Removing the old air conditioning equipment
Decided to tear out the compressor and all the evaporators and pipes today.
Nearly ready for registration!
So I’ve taken the car out for a few drives preparing it for rego!
Good thing I have because the shift linkage bearings completely disintegrated and I couldn’t shift to second or fourth!
Dash
Dash has started to come together now I was lucky enough to get some crucial parts I needed to nearly complete the dash inside the car.
Wrapped with how it’s come together!
Exterior 95% complete
So we’re almost done! Respray has happened and missing the front wipers badge and antenna!
Has been a big journey!
Respray time
Well finally I’ve bit the bullet this type of car just needs to be done properly and in an oven to perfection.
Got her picked up this morning and sent over to be sprayed and sorted by the professionals. I wasted a lot of time on materials and working on her but gained a few valuable skills and lessons in the mean time.
